  • This course will prepare you to pass the LCC certification exam. Consultants who have this Laboratory Informatics Institute certification offer laboratories seeking a LIMS a higher standard. The LCC certifies that they understand and employ the LIMSpec process of procuring, validating, auditing and maintaining LIMS, including

    1. Analysis of the lab's informatics needs through use of the LII Lab Questionnaire (LQ),
    2. Development of system and vendor questionnaires (SQ and VQ) including comprehensive, detailed and accurate URS (User requirement Specifications),
    3. System validation with test plan, test scripts and ability to support
    4. Auditing to a given regulatory compliance standard such as GALP, CAP, ISO/IEC17025, 21 CFR part 11, HIPAA, etc.

The LII LIMSpec Certification is the only laboratory informatics certification for this industry. When a lab chooses to hire an LCC certified professional, they know that they have met the high standards required by the Laboratory Informatics Institute, whereas previously a lab only had the consultant's self-professed expertise to go on, plus any selected references, with no guarantee they had any formal training at all.

Many lab people themselves, finding themselves charged with the task of heading up a LIMS acquisition, may find this course extremely helpful too. You probably would not be particularly interested in taking the certification exam, but the free course materials will equip you superbly for the task.

    Requirements for Certification

To earn your LCC certification you will need to supply three references who can verify past LIMS consulting performance and pass the LCC exam, which will include a practical component. You can renew your certification every three years by either (1) adding three LIMSpec references or (2) re-taking the exam.

There is no time limit on lessons, just contact the site administrator when you are ready to take the exam.

  • The information gathering stage is probably the most critical part of the LIMS acquisition and implementation process. It's a case of GIGO (Garbage In, Garbage Out) if not done well. The selection of the correct LIMS for the lab, and its successful implementation and Go Live are a direct function of how accurately and completely the lab's informatics needs were assessed.

This course explains how to use the Laboratory Informatics Institute's templates and methodology to accomplish that.

  • This course explains the design of the ELab LIMS, how the application and database connect and what is used to create and modify screens, reports and functions.

  • The processing of samples or specimens through the lab begins with their logging in and receiving, or accessioning. This course shows the many ways ELab supports this process.
